Ohio Lawyers Give Back was conceived by Patrick J. Perotti, Senior Partner of Dworken & Bernstein Co., L.P.A. to promote the use of cy pres in class action settlements.

Often at the conclusion of a class action, some class members cannot be found and their share of the settlement goes unclaimed. This can amount to a large sum.

The ancient cy pres doctrine is now being used to anticipate unclaimed funds and distribute them to the next-best beneficiaries, including a host of worthy nonprofits that serve the community in a myriad of ways.

Under the aegis of Ohio Lawyers Give Back, Dworken & Bernstein has been responsible for the distribution of over $50 million to many deserving communal organizations since 2003.

Considering the tremendous potential to pour unclaimed settlement dollars back into the community, Dworken & Bernstein uses the Ohio Lawyers Give Back platform to encourage and support the broad use of cy pres in class action settlements across the country where significant unclaimed funds are expected.
