St. Malachi Center

The mission of St. Malachi Center is to empower the individual, nurture the family, and build the community. Just as every human being needs food each day to sustain the body, we also need to be nourished in mind, heart, and spirit to flourish as people. St. Malachi Center serves to nourish individuals and families this way, transforming them through educational, spiritual, and social programs.

St. Malachi Church has a 140-year history of serving its surrounding Near West Side/Ohio City neighborhood, a community historically living below the poverty level. In 1985, St. Malachi Center was founded to extend the church’s outreach through formal programs and services. Since then, St. Malachi Center has been a vital part of this area of Cleveland, encouraging and supporting individuals and families who come to us with hope for better lives. The Center provides programs and services designed to assist in self-development, giving our participants the tools they need to succeed at school, at work, and as models in their communities.

Cy Pres Award Donation

St. Malachi Center will use this award to fund programs currently operating without sufficient funding to cover expenses. Programs such as:
  • Partners for Progress, a collaborative family literacy program that features GED preparation and job coaching for parents along with educational child care for their pre-school aged children;
  • After School Program for youth in kindergarten through grade five, in which the Center provides a safe, structured, and nurturing environment for kids after school; homework help; Reading Buddies literacy tutoring; arts, crafts, and cultural activities; field trips; fitness and recreation; and nutritious snacks—plus a lot of fun;
  • Shower Program for those who are homeless, offering clean shower facilities to men and women weekday mornings, plus toiletries and personal items; connections with agencies that can assist with health, housing, and substance abuse issues; and conversation, support, and community.
The donation will enable St. Malachi Center to offer quality enrichment activities for our kids after school, assist in providing the supportive services so greatly needed by our single parents working to get their GEDs and enter the workforce; and keep our showers, washer, and dryer operating so our homeless friends can refresh themselves with a hot shower, a dry towel, and a clean change of clothes.
