New Directions for LivingNew Directions for Living is the only transitional housing program serving the Lake County area that not only provides safe and affordable transitional housing but provides intensive and individualized self sufficiency counseling for program participants to help them make the necessary changes in their lives to move them away from homelessness and toward an independent and positive future.Program participants can remain for 24 months maximum while they are working on a weekly basis with our case managers. We emphasize budgeting, debt reduction, education and attention to whatever individual issues forced the family into homelessness. At the end of their time, the successful client is able to move into affordable and appropriate permanent housing and has achieved financial independence, a renewed sense of responsibility and self-esteem. In the last calendar year, 29 families were served. 16 families exited the program with 11 doing so successfully. Cy Pres Award DonationOur twelve housing units are always full, and we always have a waiting list, with families waiting several months to enter housing. Our program participants have been living in precarious situations, and are very motivated to turn their lives around. We are eager to use this gift we to add to our capacity to help even more families to move away from homelessness and toward positive membership in our community.
