Lawrence School

Lawrence School is an independent, state-chartered, coeducational day school that has earned a distinguished reputation for providing a quality education to students who have learning and attention differences. Lawrence serves students from over 70 communities in ten counties throughout Northeast Ohio from its two campus locations in Broadview Heights and Sagamore Hills. The school is one of only three schools in the state, and the only one of its kind in Northeast Ohio, to specifically serve this educationally at-risk population.

Most students who attend Lawrence School - despite having average to above-average intelligence - have experienced difficulty fitting into classroom environments designed for the "typical learner". They often feel frustrated and defeated, and research shows they are far more likely than average learners to give up on school. Lawrence School specializes in educating these students by accepting and affirming their unique learning styles, supporting them through their academic journey, and inspiring and motivating them to excel beyond what they would believe imaginable.

Lawrence School utilized a portion the funds gifted through Dworken & Bernstein to bring our capital campaign for a new Upper School campus to a $7 mil close. The 62,000 square foot building, located on a 47-acre campus, is able to serve 300 students in grades 7-12. The expansion to a second campus has allowed Lawrence School to provide specialized programming and services to a traditionally under-served population, and plays a crucial role in preparing young adults for post-secondary success.

The remaining portion of the donation was placed in a Board-restricted reserve fund, to be used for future projects at the discretion of the Board of Trustees. These projects help ensure that Lawrence preserves and maintains its specialized teacher training, small class sizes and individualized instruction, technology initiatives, and expanded opportunities for hands-on experiential learning - all, hallmarks of the program.
