Community Shelter Board

Created in 1986 to respond to the growing problem of homelessness in Franklin County, The Community Shelter Board oversees $9 Million in funding for homelessness prevention initiatives, emergency shelters, housing services and supportive housing showcasing an innovative, collaborative model for abolishing homelessness. Community Shelter Board's preventative initiatives assist families and individuals who are homeless, precariously housed or living on the streets to locate and maintain stable housing. Families and individuals are provided with relocations services, referrals, tenant education, and linkage to short-term financial rental assistance in order to quickly resolve the family's or individuals housing crisis.

Our partner agencies provide access to shelter for over 7,500 men, women and family members each year. Beyond providing a secure and clean place to sleep, all programs provide access to basic services such as meals, healthcare, and material assistance as well as referrals, supportive services and crisis assistance. The Community Shelter Board's housing service programs help families and individuals transition from the shelter system to housing throughout the community with supportive services to successfully help people maintain their housing.

Cy Pres Award Donation

The gift will be a part of our operating funds, which are used for such things as permanent supportive housing. Permanent supportive housing links residents to a range of support services designed to maintain stable housing and improve the quality of their lives. In Columbus and Franklin County, permanent supportive housing for people who have experienced long-term homelessness and are disabled consists of nearly 800 units of housing.
