Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County, The Western Reserve and Cleveland

The Boys & Girls Clubs are a youth development organization providing after school and summer programming to school age, primarily at risk, youths. The Clubs are currently serving more than 180 kids a day, and are projected to serve over 1,000 children and teens in 2008.

The membership served by the Boys & Girls Clubs is at greater risk of experiencing problems with drug and alcohol abuse, social adjustment, educational underachievement, and unemployment because of various social and economic factors. Young people who have positive alternatives coupled with peers and adults who support their decisions are less likely to become involved in costly, destructive behavior.

Our after-school programs provide children with affordable opportunities to participate in quality educational and recreational programs. Our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Our primary goal is to assist youth members in developing skills and qualities to become responsible citizens and leaders

The Boys & Girls Clubs change the lives of school age youth by offering hope and opportunity to ensure that each young person is engaged. We work to change the world…one child at a time.

Cy Pres Award Donation

This prospective funding will be used to assist and support general operations, and the five core programs which include character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, the art, and social recreation. In addition to our current youth programs, we are proposing to use the funding for the positions of the Nordson Community Center's (Lorain County) Unit Director, Education Coordinator and Career Development Coordinator. The Nordson Community Center Unit will allow us to operate year round with daily program opportunities, while enhancing inter-club and teen program initiatives. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Cleveland will use the proceeds to expand our number of chartered units in underserved areas. A second priority would be to expand the Cleveland Metropolitan School District outreach programming. Additionally, we have been informed by Cuyahoga County that our 2009 Temporary Aid to Needy Families grant will not be renewed, and this will negatively affect our organization's revenue by $100,000 in 2009.
