Big Brothers Big Sisters - Central, Northeast, Northwest, Ohio and Summit & Medina Counties
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest and largest youth mentoring organization in the U.S. Our mission is to help children reach their highest potential through professionally supported, one-to-one relationships with mentors. These one-to-one relationships between young people and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters have a measurable and positive impact which has been documented by independent research studies.
We provide several different programs including after school mentoring and even a specifically designed program for children with incarcerated parents called “Lunch Buddy”. Because intervention occurs at an early age, before serious problems develop, our community benefits. By matching these children with carefully screened volunteers who serve as friends, role models and sources of positive support, these children have a head start at developing into responsible, contributing citizens throughout our community.
As a result of funding costs, we have had to stop serving youth in certain areas because it was no longer financially viable. Several after school programs have been cut and many secretarial and support staff positions have been eliminated placing burdens on remaining staff. We have become a bare bones organization which drastically compromises our ability to grow and serve the children on our waiting list.
